Winter 2016/17
University of Göttingen

This seminar deals with the design of international organizations (IOs), by which we understand the formation of certain institutions within international organizations. The aim is to deepen what was learned in module M.Pol.200 through an important and currently one of the most dynamic debates in international relations. The seminar is divided into three parts and a subsequent presentation part. In a first part we get to know different concepts for the design of IOs. In the second part, we turn to the most important explanations for differences and similarities in the institutional design of IOs. In the third part, we consider the implications of these designs in terms of performance and legitimacy.
